Lightly coat the new oxygen sensor thread with anti-seize compound. Install the new oxygen sensor and tighten it to 50Nm (37 ft-lb). Then reroute the wiring harness and connect the electrical connector. Repeat if replacing both sensors. Then reassemble the engine covers and clear any engine fault codes using a BMW scan tool.
The fuel supply system in a BMW E53 consists of: Fuel tank; Fuel filler with associated breathing and venting pipes; High-pressure fuel pump assembly with fuel filter and fuel level senders; The fuel tank is two-lobed. There are two fuel level senders, one in each lobe on the left and right sides underneath the rear seat cushion.

It is not the easiest part to access on your BMW E53 X5 with an M62 8cylinder engine. Figure 2 Start by removing the starter heat shield. Remove the three 10mm fasteners (red arrows). Figure 3 Then remove the heat shield (red arrow). Feed the forward facing part of the shield down and remove it.
